Guest Talk: Afrofuturism in Science Fiction Online
Join us via Zoom as Dr. Isiah Lavender presents on the rise of Afrofuturism in science fiction literature, particularly in the works of groundbreaking author Octavia Butler!
Dr. Lavender is the Sterling Goodman Professor of English at the University of Georgia and author of four books, including Afrofuturism Rising: The Literary Prehistory of a Movement, Race in American Science Fiction, Black and Brown Planets: The Politics of Race in Science Fiction , and Dis-Orienting Planets: Racial Representations of Asia in Science Fiction. He is currently working on his next monograph, Critical Race Theory and Science Fiction.
